Bella

Adopted MAY 2023!

Bella’s Story:

Beautiful Bella was flown to America in November 2022 as part of our Freedom Flight program. She’d been rescued from a puppy mill in South Korea and was one of eleven dogs that Camp Cocker had committed to taking from there. Sadly, in addition to living their entire lives in the small, filthy cages, all of the dogs had also been debarked by the breeder. When we took Bella to our vet for a dental in early December, they were unable to move forward because they couldn't insert the breathing tube, which is required whenever a dog goes under general anesthesia. The problem appeared to be a blockage in Bella’s throat. A surgeon did an endoscopy on Bella and diagnosed her with tracheal occlusion (scar tissue) in her throat, likely caused by the debarking procedure. Because Bella is doing well clinically, surgery is not recommended at this time, but she will require a smaller tube to be used for any future intubation. Poor Bella. We don’t know for certain why her one ear is shorter than the other, but we suspect it is due to an untreated hematoma (a blood blister that develops between the skin and cartilage of the ear flap, common in dogs who are prone to ear infections, especially those with floppy ears like cocker spaniels). Despite her sad past, Bella is a super sweet little girl, friendly and social!

Her family tell us that Bella was a little restless on the first night in her new home, but they know that's to be expected in new surroundings. She really seems to like her big crate, which her parents leave open for her to come and go (and nap!) as she pleases. Her mom cooks her homemade dog food from the Just Food for Dogs website and tells us that Bella gobbles it up! They’re teaching her to go potty outside and, although she's had a few accidents in the house, they know she’ll get better as they do more training with her. Bella is doing well overall and is such a lovely, happy dog.

From Bella’s adopters: “She's such a lil sweetie pie and we plan to spoil her!
