WELCOME TO CAMP COCKER RESCUE, COWBOY!

*** COWBOY HAS BEEN ADOPTED!!! ***

GOOD NEWS UPDATE 12/30/24:

Little low-rider Cowboy is doing so well, we can’t believe it! He had bloodwork rechecked and was neutered. Now he just needs to wear his party hat for another week while his stitches absorb. (See the rest of his rescue story below.)

Cowboy, a hit-by-car dog, was rescued from the San Bernardino Shelter. Amazingly, his recovery is complete! He is estimated* to be 2-3 years old and weighs 22 lbs. He’s potty trained, dog-friendly, and people-friendly and we LOVE him SO much!!

Cowboy is a sweet, submissive, darling boy. He’s also an escape risk. He’s easily startled, and may react by jumping up and trying to escape whatever space he’s in, which may well be how he came to hit by a car!

*Please note that any age provided is only an estimate, based on veterinary examination.

COWBOY’S STORY, BEGINNING 12/13/24: Camp Cocker Rescue JUST rescued another hit-by-car spaniel mix! Uh oh, we thought we had rescued our last hit-by-car dog of 2024 just a few weeks ago. Now we have a new one, and this little short-legged spaniel mix boy has been named Cowboy.

COWBOY was picked up by the police in San Bernardino, CA in the middle of the night after he was hit by a car on 12/13/24. They took him to an emergency animal hospital to stabilize him, then he went to the San Bernardino City, CA animal shelter. Thank goodness the shelter sent out an email asking for a rescue so that Camp Cocker could act fast to get him out of there.

We scooped him up and got him to our 24/7 veterinary hospital on Friday night, where he remained in a state of shock and on oxygen to support his shallow breathing, until Wednesday. Cowboy had a CT Scan on Monday and the results ruled out any brain swelling or skull fractures.
