>> DOUGAL IS NOW IN HOSPICE CARE - PLEASE CONSIDER DONATING TO HIS ONGOING COMFORT CARE!

WELCOME TO CAMP COCKER RESCUE, DOUGAL!

Due to his diagnosis of laryngeal paralysis, and daily risk of aspiration pneumonia, Dougal is now in Hospice Care.

Other than his cough, produced by the laryngeal paralysis, he has a pretty comfortable life right now, due to the quality of care that he’s been receiving. Dougal’s current foster will continue to provide comfort care, and we will continue to ask for donations to help make this final chapter of his life as comfortable as possible.

Thank you Camp Cocker Village!

THE “SHORT” VERSION OF DOUGAL’S STORY:

  • Dougal was a very senior dog, frail with pancreatitis and pneumonia, and significantly underweight, whom we rescued from the LA Carson Shelter on January 2, 2024.

  • In addition to the pancreatitis, pneumonia, and underweight condition, his mouth was painful from rotted teeth. One tooth was hanging out when we rescued him and then fell out on its own, with roots showing. Ouch!

  • After his pancreatitis and chest x-rays cleared, he needed to gain weight before going under anesthesia for his dental.

  • We began feeding him with Just Food For Dogs, Chicken & Rice formula, feeding him multiple times throughout the day in an attempt to have him gain weight. He has been slowly gaining weight and muscle mass and is now, finally, an ideal weight at 32 pounds.

  • Dougal finally became healthy enough for dental cleaning and extractions, as well as entropion surgery for his eyes. Those eyes are so much more comfortable now!

  • He still has a chronic dry cough and when the vet did Dougal’s dental last month, a new diagnosis was discovered.

  • Dougal was diagnosed with Laryngeal Paralysis which is the source of his permanent cough, and means that he is prone to bouts of aspiration pneumonia.

  • The bad news is that Dougal’s Laryngeal Paralysis continues. He’s had pneumonia twice so far this year and will continue to be at high risk for aspiration pneumonia.

  • He's being treated with Chinese herbs for his Laryngeal Paralysis since LP is most likely neuromuscular.

  • His foster has been taking him to the vet for acupuncture and laser therapy. He is also on multiple supplements to support his body. He continues to love his delicious Just Food For Dogs. We’re quite sure that Dougal never had good-tasting food before! If you’d like to support Dougal by providing him with a yummy low-fat meal or two, you can do that RIGHT HERE! Thank you!

  • Dougal has been getting “the gold star treatment” over the past five months, and his life has improved dramatically! Thanks to his foster, and the support of the Camp Cocker Village, his spirit has evolved - from seeming hopeless to looking forward to every new day!
