*** HONEY HAS BEEN ADOPTED!!! ***
WELCOME TO CAMP COCKER RESCUE, HONEY!
HONEY is a female Cocker Spaniel Freedom Flyer from Mongolia. She arrived in Los Angeles on 9/5/23.
Now that Honey has seen our veterinarian, we’ve learned that she’s estimated* to be 5-6 years old, and weighs 18lbs.
More details about Honey:
Her foster mom says, “She really is a good girl!”
She’s people-friendly and loves to cuddle.
She also gets along with other dogs, but is a bit of a bossy female with some dogs, and may need a moment or two with a little supervision to acclimate to meeting new dogs. UPDATE: Honey’s foster mom has just advised us that Honey will challenge any dog that is not submissive,
She’s not a fan of cats.
She loves walks and is potty-trained.
She travels well in the car.
She’s a small girl, but quite athletic and can jump suprisingly high, so fences will need to be high enough to contain her.
Honey is also child-friendly as tested with children who have good doggy-manners & supervision, but may become tense or agitated around loud active kids, which would of course include visiting guests. She’d probably do best in a home with somewhat older and calmer children, or a home with no children.
*Please note that any age provided is only an estimate, based on veterinary examination.
Honey is being fostered in Southern California.

Honey represents what animal rescue is all about, so we’d like to share a little bit of her story. Many, many people were a part of Honey’s rescue story and the combined efforts of volunteers in both countries made it all possible. This is why we truly believe that compassion has no borders.
Honey was rescued from certain death off of the streets in Mongolia by rescuers with Хөөрхөн Зулзага ТББ in January 2023. Temperatures drop down to 35 degrees below zero in the freezing winters there. If Honey hadn’t frozen to death, the hunters would have gotten her.
There are no good options for stray dogs in Mongolia unless one of the two underfunded rescues takes in a stray dog.
Since there are so few Cocker Spaniels in the local shelters here in the U.S., and our original mission is to save homeless Cockers in need, we believe that rescue is rescue - and how could we say no to Honey?
Honey is one of the Cocker Spaniels in Mongolia that Camp Cocker Rescue committed to in March. The process to bring these dogs to the US is a long one as the CDC requires two rabies vaccines, then a blood test that is shipped overseas to a CDC approved lab, for a rabies titer test.
The most challenging part of the entire international rescue process is finding someone willing to accompany the dogs on their flights to America. Fortunately, despite the challenge, we’ve been able to find “flight volunteers” willing to do just that.
In Honey’s case, a truly amazing thing happened! Some lovely adopters that we’d just pre-approved for another Mongolian dog (Jessy) who was scheduled to come to Camp Cocker at the end of September, didn’t want to wait that long for her to arrive. So they offered to fly to Mongolia and bring her back themselves! But wait, there’s more! They also offered to bring along another dog waiting to fly to California, so Honey got to come along!
Time after time, we’re reminded that Camp Cocker adopters are the MOST AMAZING people - and we are so grateful for each & every one!

In the fall of 2022 Camp Cocker committed to taking in seven cocker spaniels from Mongolia.
almost a year later we have more COCKERS on the way!!
The process is quite extensive because Mongolia is on the list of countries that the C.D.C. has on a watch list for rabies. So each dog must go through a lengthy process in order to get approved to enter the U.S.
It can take five months (or longer!) to get permission, after two rabies vaccines, a blood draw, a titer test, and lots of paperwork.
We at Camp Cocker Rescue believe that compassion has no borders and just because Honey happened to be born into a situation where her options were limited, doesn't mean she isn't worth being rescued.
Thank you for having a heart for dogs like Honey. It means so much to us to be able to say “yes” to a shelter dog in need - no matter where that shelter is located.
