Hi! It’s me, JANAY!
Today is Thursday, August 4, and I have some updates for you!
Last week, I moved to my new foster home. Because I’m a Brittany, the volunteers at Camp Cocker Rescue have been hard at work on learning more about me, how I might be different from other Camp Cocker dogs, and what would make an ideal home for me. So here’s what’s new:
- Routine - I love routine! It really helps me to know what to expect because I tend to get a little stressed and vocalize (loudly) when I encounter new things and various stimuli. I’ve already learned, in this short time that I’ve been in my new foster home, that establishing routines wherever possible will help me to be much more comfortable in my home! I’m a smart girl and can figure things out pretty quickly, once I’m shown the way!
- Environment - A calm environment makes a really big difference to me! I’m most comfortable when my environment and interactions are consistently calm and well-managed to show me that things are OK, and that I can be calm too!
- Energy - I have lots of energy! That’s typical of a Brittany - but I can also be a pretty snuggly couch potato. The perfect environment for me would be a home with a doggie door to my back yard, and adopters who love to spend time with me - indoors and out!
- Snuggles - I’m sweet, friendly, and crave human attention. It’s amazing how content I feel when I’m snuggled up against my people. If you’re on the couch, I want to be right up there with you! I don’t like sleeping alone, and would at least like to sleep in the same room with you. You’ll never feel lonely with me around! By the way, I’m fine with other dogs!
- Medical Info - Before I left South Korea, I had an injury on my rear left ankle that needed repair. Camp Cocker sponsored surgery for me before I flew to America. I’m now able to use that leg, and have been going to physical therapy here to build up my leg muscle. I also have some elbow malformations that supposedly make my legs look like a bulldog’s arms. (Weird, huh?) The specialist in Los Angeles did not get a pain response when she tested me, which is a good thing. None of these issues have affected my ability to walk or run, or to get the exercise I need.
The doctor’s plan is to manage my orthopedic condition like they’d manage arthritis - starting with something called Adequan. Camp Cocker has also had good results with CBD, so they will recommend that to my new adopters as well.
- Thank you for reading my story! As you can see, I want to share everything about myself! Did I forget to mention that I’m a beautiful orange and white 32 pound girl? And I’m young - somewhere between 2-5 years old. I’m here patiently waiting for that person who is meant to be with me - to read my story, apply to adopt me, and finally come to get me - so that I can settle in to the life I’m meant to have! That will be my dream come true!
Love, Janay

P.S. SOME ADDITIONAL THOUGHTS FROM MY FOSTER HOME:
— Janay’s adopter(s) should be comfortable with the concept of establishing a routine for her. She’s most content when she knows what to expect in her home environment.
— Her adopter(s) should be open to working with a force-free trainer who has experience with Brittanys, and may even be able to help her self-regulate.
— Janay’s ideal home will have a doggie door with access to a back yard where she can run & play. In terms of the getting the exercise she needs, she wants her people to be outdoors with her.
— Janay should not be in an apartment or condo with adjacent walls. When she is agitated or anxious, her response can result in some very loud barking.
— Her adopter(s) should probably not have young children, due to the importance of providing a calm environment for Janay.
— Her adopter(s) should not be too senior, nor have balance issues. Janay can nearly knock you off your feet when she comes running to greet you!
