KEWPIE IS BEING FOSTERED IN THE LOS ANGELES AREA

WELCOME TO CAMP COCKER RESCUE, KEWPIE!

His name is KEWPIE and he is a sweet, friendly, little Maltipoo mix! He’s currently about 1 year old as of February 2025, and he weighs 16 pounds.

A good samaritan witnessed him being hit by a car and took him to a Veterinary ER hospital in Los Angeles. The facility immediately called Camp Cocker, known to rescue hit-by-car dogs, and we agreed to take him into our rescue and provide the medical care he needed.

Attempts were made to save his left (rear) leg, but ultimately the correct medical decision was to amputate.

So now Kewpie is a sweet, friendly, playful little 3-legged tripod - ready for adoption! ❤️❤️❤️

Kewpie is so friendly with people and other dogs, and would likely do well in a home with kids who have good doggie manners. He would love nothing more than to snuggle with you!

Kewpie is crate-trained and sleeps quietly in his crate at night. He is housebroken with consistency - and even as a puppy it’s been pretty easy to meet his exercise needs.

MORE FEEDBACK ON KEWPIE:

I fostered Kewpie two different times while his regular foster was on vacation.  Kewpie is a GREAT dog.  He is friendly, happy and loving.

He loves people and his favorite thing is to lay on the couch with you.  He's a cuddler.  He is also very happy to curl up in his comfy doggie bed by your feet.  Even though he is still a puppy at one year old, I didn't experience any of the teething/biting at all.  Like most young dogs, he does chew but he loves the Nylabones and only chewed those and dog toys during his visits.

Kewpie walks and runs wonderfully.  Sometimes you forget he is a tripod, especially when he is running because he can move so fast!

However, he is not a dog who needs a lot of exercise, as he actually prefers to go in the backyard, go potty, run a bit, and come inside.  He does walk fine on a leash but could use a bit more training.  We found that he walks better when the leash is on his collar than when the leash was on a harness.  I think the harness messes with his balance.

He is frightened of big trucks or cars that make loud noises.  I assume that this is because he was hit by a car.  He hides behind your leg - I just picked him up and removed him from the situation.

He is housetrained if you are consistent with taking him out.

He rides well in the car.

He loved my two Golden Retrievers.  When he first met them, he was scared as my younger one, Ellie, gets overly excited.  He gives other dogs a low growl when he is scared (he doesn't snap or anything, I think he is trying to act tough to cover his fear.). After one minute, he was totally fine and played with Ellie and cuddled with her and Pippa, my older dog.  He kissed Pippa's face - it was so cute!

Kewpie is crate trained and sleeps quietly in his crate,  If you break the rules like I did, he sleeps all night in your bed and is a great snuggler.

He is a slow eater so if you have other dogs...feed him in a crate so that he can take his time.  My Goldens are food hogs so once he saw that his food was safe, he would eat.

He loves children of all ages.

He is a very happy dog.

He is fine with loud noises in the home.  He wasn't scared of the vacuum cleaner, blender, or when my teenage son had six guys over for band practice with amps.  He just loved the attention.

I brought him to my office and he was perfectly behaved.  He doesn't bark, and cuddled with everyone.

I have only heard him bark a couple of times and that's when my dogs were barking at a delivery person.

Whoever is lucky enough to give Kewpie a forever home will have won the doggie lottery.  He is such a good boy and will make a wonderful family member.
