IT’S HARD TO IMAGINE WHAT THIS SWEET PUP HAS BEEN THROUGH
THIS IS HOW LANIE WAS FOUND BY HER SOUTH KOREAN RESCUERS
*** LANIE HAS BEEN ADOPTED!!! ***
Lanie is a Freedom Flyer from S Korea!
She is a female Spaniel mix estimated to be about 3-4 years old, and weighs 20 pounds.
Lanie has an exceptionally sweet temperament!. She’s good with other dogs, enjoys people, and likes to shake paws to get a treat! She has mastered sit and shake (in two languages!) and is quickly learning stay. She is smart and wants to please!
Lanie is a charmer and often gets compliments on her calm behavior from visitors to her foster home and when accompanying her foster family out to meals and events. She has even charmed cat lovers due to her calm and independent nature! She is happy hanging out alone in her bed or her pen, but if you put her in your lap or give her any opportunity to rest her head on you, she will happily accept and will not move an inch until you make her! She loves meeting new people and warms up to them quickly.
Lanie LOVES her walks and gets very excited for them! She will wiggle and waggle her tail to no end, and she even helps you put her harness on. On walks, she does great on a leash and will walk alongside you -- unless she sees a squirrel! Likely because she is new to walks, she can get very excited about seeing other dogs and needs help keeping that excitement in check (and meetings short).
Lanie sleeps great through the night. She is also a great napper during the day. She is learning about dog toys and is starting to get the hang of them, especially the ones involving treats! She does great in the car with a comfy place to snuggle and sleep.
Lanie is thriving now, which is especially heartwarming because she was rescued from a place of apparent neglect and abuse in S Korea.
She was found chained outside of the house where her deceased owner had lived. Lanie was said to have been abused after her owner’s death, but when she was taken to the rescue veterinarian, the X-rays showed possible evidence of long term abuse with multiple fractures to her hip bones and knees.
The veterinarian in S Korea could not recommend surgery because of the time that had elapsed since the injuries - and instead recommended rehab and physical therapy as the proper course of treatment for Lanie’s injuries.
Lanie has had her initial consult with specialty veterinarians here in Los Angeles, who also do not recommend surgery due to the age of the fractures. She also had a consult with a physical therapist who recommended a home exercise program for her.
Amazingly, Lanie is ambulatory! Her foster family has been taking her on walks and hikes, and Lanie has been doing great with them. She has walked over a mile in one go, and she walks at a regular pace. On longer hikes, they have been bringing a backpack along in case Lanie needs a short rest (and after those rests she has been ready to go!). Lanie is also confident on stairs and is able to jump, though her foster family is keeping those activities to a minimum for now.
Our primary concern with Lanie's back legs and hips is her comfort level and preventing future arthritis, but those issues do not affect her day-to-day enjoyment of life -- or her charm!
Lanie is working on her home exercise program and we are seeing some improvement in her comfort levels!
NOTE: Lanie will NOT need rehab & physical therapy, and she is no longer limited to adoption in Los Angeles. Her medical team has recommended daily walks and an at-home exercise program designed for Lanie’s needs.
