Luigi
Adopted MARCH 2023!
Luigi’s Story:
Luigi is a charming little cairn terrier mix with the bestest teefies! He was rescued from the Bakersfield, CA animal shelter in August 2022 after he’d been picked up as a stray with another little dog whom he was very attached to. As with most shelter dogs, we don't know his real age but our vet guessed 8 to 9 years old. Luigi was very scared after his rescue and, sadly, his friend passed away from cancer shortly after we got her. Luigi had diagnostics done because he had a noticable bulging mass in his abdominal area and it turned out that he was crypt orchid (where the testicles don't drop and remain in the abdomen). Luckily, because he had x-rays done of his full body, the vet was able to identify another abdominal mass and Luigi was immediately taken into surgery. Tissue samples were sent out for biopsy and they found that the right testicle (the one creating the bulging mass) was abnormal. Thank goodness they were able to remove it all and Luigi is now happily cancer-free!
Luigi is the sweetest, silliest little boy once he gets comfortable and feels secure in a new home. He really loves to be held and would be content to cuddle all day long. He’s nervous around new people, but friendly with other dogs and even with cats! Because he is so timid we wanted to find Luigi a home with another friendly dog who could help to show him the way. He also needed a patient adopter with a quiet lifestyle.
Luigi’s adopter had seen him on our website and immediately fell in love with him! She’s had several rescue dogs over the years, including three cairn terriers who’d been puppy mill mamas and were terrified of the world. She is happy to take the time to help this sensitive boy feel comfortable and carry him when he’s feeling overwhelmed. Now living in Massachusetts, Luigi spends his days with his doting mom and a terrier sister, named Maddie. This eleven pound snugglebug fits right into their life and home! Perhaps due to his anxious personality, Luigi’s potty training is still a work in progress, but he quickly got used to the snowy weather there. We are so proud of this resilient little man.
