*** JANUARY 2022 UPDATE ON MILES-MILO:

  • Miles-Milo is a 7 to 9-year old possibly Sapsali terrier mix from South Korea.  He is about 26 lbs, light tan and white, with soft double-coated fur.  He does shed.

  • He is sweet, gentle, and shy but is improving and getting more confident every day.  He has some social anxiety, but who doesn’t after the stay-at-home orders during the pandemic?

  • Miles-Milo would prefer a calmer household.  He would likely do best in a home without active children or dogs who can be unpredictable, as sudden movements and playtime can make him nervous.

  • He feels more comfortable with women than with men overall.  However, it may take a while, but he does warm up to some men once he gets to know them so long as the guy is gentle and patient with Miles-Milo.

  • Miles-Milo looooves long walks around the neighborhood where he can stop and sniff (and mark) to his heart’s content.  He’s fine with street noises (trucks, motorcycles, sirens) and other pedestrians walking by but wouldn’t do well on crowded sidewalks (like a crowded shopping area).  He doesn’t usually like meeting other dogs on walks and would prefer to just give other dogs some distance, though he will sniff in their general direction.

  • At dog parks, he tolerates other dogs sniffing him as long as they are not too aggressive about it.  Otherwise, he tends to spend his time around the edges of the park sniffing and checking out the lay of the land.  He will let other dogs know when he’s not okay with them getting in his face.

  • Miles-Milo is a homebody and doesn’t like to travel to new places.  He doesn’t like going to crowded public places, so he wouldn’t be the best dog for someone who’s social and wants a dog they can take out to brunch on a patio or to crowded hiking spots.

  • He is independent and enjoys his solitude, but he also enjoys being pet by his foster mom and being near her and will often follow her around the house.  His favorite spots to be pet are in between his eyes, on his chest, and underneath his belly, where if you hit just the right spot, his right back leg will lift to scratch.  He will often go to his foster mom for comfort and safety, particularly when he gets scared or anxious.  He also jumps on you to be picked up like a baby whenever he feels nervous.  Miles-Milo doesn’t usually like to cuddle, except when he’s seeking comfort.

  • Miles-Milo is generally really quiet and calm.  However, he gets excited in the morning and will sometimes jump into his foster parents’ bed (he normally sleeps on a dog bed on the floor) after his foster dad leaves the room.  He will also follow his mom into the bathroom, and alternately sit and wait patiently and dash around the room while waiting for his foster mom to get ready to go on his morning walk.  When he hears the garage door opening or closing, he gets excited and will dash up and down the stairs.  It took months, but the first time he finally wagged his tail when his foster mom came home, it made her heart soar.  He also gets excited for his breakfast and dinner and will hop around and make little noises and quiet barks.

  • Miles-Milo has a grade II or III heart murmur (on a scale of one to six) and has been diagnosed with mitral valve disease by a cardiologist, but his heart function remains normal.  He currently requires no medication and will need to be seen by a cardiologist every 9 to 12 months.

  • Miles-Milo is fully house trained.  He can sometimes nervous poop or pee inside, mainly if someone he’s not familiar or comfortable with approaches him, but it’s rare.

  • Miles-Milo does fine with bath and grooms.  He doesn’t play with toys.  He is not really a foodie and generally doesn’t get into stuff or chew, though he has been known to tear into some raw chicken his foster mom accidentally left on the floor.  Amazingly, Miles-Milo appears to have an iron stomach, as his raw chicken adventure did not cause any stomach upset.  He is a real health nut.  He tends to prefer real foods and natural treats, like freeze-dried meats or jerky treats.  He doesn’t typically take treats that are processed, like biscuits or soft chewy treats.

  • Miles-Milo is being fostered in the Los Angeles area.
