Meet Rupert!
This little medical mess of a man was rescued from the East Valley/Los Angeles city animal shelter and oh boy, did he need "the works". Rupert appeared to be suffering from a lifetime of allergies, skin and ear infections.
First he needed a full blood panel, heartworm test, urinalysis, thyroid test, fecal/giardia testing and all the normal stuff that dogs over the age of five should get.
Next he had massively painful ears and an abscess on the side of his face underneath his right ear, from so much scratching. Rupert had a light anesthesia just for the vet to drain the abscess and do a culture on the ear bacteria.
Then once the abscess healed, and a few weeks of antibiotics helped with the ear infections (they were still so swollen that our vet could not see down the ear canals).
Next up was Rupert's surgery day. He had a cryptorchid (undescended testicle) neuter surgery, a dental and the vet also tried to see down the ears again. After antibiotics and steriods, the ear canals were still too swollen to get the stethoscope down.
So our vet suggested the next step is to go to the dermatologist. We have an upcoming appointment (in early April) with our favorite veterinary dermatologist, Dr. Greek in Santa Barbara. It's a far drive but Rupert is SO worth the top notch care that he will get with Dr. Greek.
The plan is for him to spend the day, go under anesthesia and get an ear scope procedure where the dermatologist will go down with a miniature camera to see everything that cannot be seen with a stethoscope.
Under anesthesia, Rupert will also be getting allergy testing. It is just like allergy testing that people get, where his skin will be pricked with lots of tiny needles, each with an allergen on the tip of it. The results of this allergy testing will give Dr. Greek the correct information for making Rupert his own custom Immunotherapy allergy drops. He will get these drops orally every day on an ongoing basis to help his body to eventually adjust to the things he is allergic to.
Rupert has run up some significant medical bills and now he needs a helping paw so he can go to the dermatologist.

We had not listed Rupert for adoption yet but in a perfect world, we would like to find someone that is local in the general Santa Barbara or Ventura county area of California. (or Los Angeles area) We just want to find a local adopter who is willing to take him to all of his Dr. Greek rechecks over the next several months (Camp Cocker will sponsor this).
His ears are not going to be easy to manage and we at least want him to get the best of treatment with Dr. Greek.
