Ralph’s Story:

Ralph, the smallest of Betty’s puppies, was born on February 18, 2024, in Camp Cocker’s care, after his pregnant mama was rescued from the streets of Victorville, CA. A true survivor, Ralph’s story is one of perseverance and hope—so grab your tissues!

Ralph’s journey began with some significant challenges due to being unable to nurse at birth. Camp Cocker’s founder, Cathy, along with Mel Lamprey, a dedicated cat rescuer, stepped in to bottle-feed the tiny puppy around the clock. While we all held on to hope, the ups and downs of this journey proved to be a tough test for both Ralph and his care team. Even so, sweet Ralph never complained!

Given the health challenges Ralph faced due to being underdeveloped at birth, Camp Cocker worked closely with our vets to provide the best care possible, giving him the greatest chance for recovery. Ralph’s survival wouldn’t have been possible without the dedication and love from the Camp Cocker team, Dr. Rachel at Oaks Veterinary Urgent Care, Mel the cat rescuer, and the unwavering support of the Camp Cocker Community, who all rallied around him during this uncertain time.

Thanks to all of the love and care he received in the first couple of months of his life, Ralph eventually started making more steps forward than backward, and pretty soon he was thriving!! To say this puppy is a miracle would be quite the understatement!

The Camp Cocker Community cheered Ralph on as he transformed from a fragile preemie to a confident and health young pup. Along the way, his future adopters were also rooting for him! Ralph captured the hearts of previous Camp Cocker adopters from out of state and became the first of Betty’s puppies to find a home. On April 29, 2024, Ralph went home to Montana with his new family, and we couldn’t be more excited for the adventures he is sure to have.

From Ralph & his family on Instagram 2/18/25: “Wishing my siblings the happiest of birthdays. Sending so much love to everyone in the Camp Cocker family, for without them I wouldn’t be here living my amazing life.”

Fun Fact: While the puppies’ breeds were unknown at the time of their birth, it was clear they were going to be big! Mama Betty is definitely Cocker Spaniel, but the rest was a mystery. Ralph’s new family did a DNA test on him and found that the puppies are Cocker Spaniel, German Shepard, Shih Tzu, and Russel-type Terrier. Wow!
